A standout Italian eggplant variety for market growers. FL Market eggplant was the most productive open-pollinated Italian eggplant in trials at Care of the Earth Farm, both in 2016 (a hot, dry year) and 2020 (a milder, wetter season). It produces one pound, glossy purple Italian eggplants July through frost in all conditions. At Care of the Earth Farm, it became the most reliable eggplant for CSA shares. It is also Megan’s preferred eggplant for home use – its mild flavor and meaty texture work in a variety of preparations. Never bitter, it does not need peeling and also freezes particularly well once roasted. Developed in 1948 at the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station in Gainesville, FL. 200 seeds/gram.
