Green squash! - Guatemalan Green Ayote. Its also really sweet and tasty. This squash comes from the Lago Atitlan region of Guatemala. We've been stewarding and selecting it here since 2017 - for greenness and flavor. The population is a good bit greener than when we first got it, despite some false starts and twists and turns in the process. We've got a good crop of seeds this year. Bringing home the South Anna Butternut harvest. Bakers Branch Butternut Harvest - Vine Tracing as a Selection Tool Peanut harvest! Tennessee Red Valencia.. Cuban Neck Pumpkin - such a productive and beautiful squash! So glad to have a spot for a sizeable isolated seed growout this year - at Brenda Callen's seed garden, part of All-Farm Organics in Louisa, VA. We're tracing the fruits back to the bases of all the plants - this enables us get a comprehensive read on each plant so we can continue to adapt and improve the variety for our conditions. We'll be doing eating quality tests as part of the selection as well. We've stewarded this variety here in Louisa since 2014 and are very happy with it. 23 peppers from one plant! Harvested today, all good ones. This is our 6th generation Carmen F1 sweet pepper offshoot (dehybridization project), and we're ready to release it this winter. No name yet, but soon! Ka'ala sweet pepper has been an amazing crop the last two years. So productive while also being really tasty, and they hold very well on the plants. These pictures are from a seed production growout at Twin Oaks Seed Farm, taken today. From the fifth generation of our cross between Trifecta and Edisto 47 melons. They're extra sweet this year with the dry weather - most are over 13 brix. Flavor, sweetness, color, small seed cavity, even netting, good holding quality, medium size, and downy mildew resistance for late season production are what we're focusing on in the selections. We're very happy with the progress! We are currently selling this as a research sample and recommend it highly. Probably will hold off another year to give it a name - that way we'll have plenty of seed on hand when we give the variety the debut it deserves. Stardust Watermelon! We selected Stardust from Yellow Moon and Stars - for the striped/netted pattern that underlays the stars. It's also an especially sweet selection.
