Ozark Gourdseed Corn (Ecologically Grown)

Price range: $4.50 through $88.00

Grown by East Wind Community (MO) and Twin Oaks Seed Farm (VA) – Zea mays – 120 days

This variety is a well stabilized though still diverse mix of several gourdseed varieties, grown and selected by Richard Goerwitz at East Wind Community in Tecumseh, Missouri. We grew it at Twin Oaks Seed Farm this year and were impressed with the consistently beautiful, large, well-filled-out ears and strong plants. Most of the ears are white, but about 20% are red, and some are pink. Color does not vary within the ear. The red and the white ears have somewhat different flavor – Richard uses the white ones for nixtamalizing and making tortillas, and the red ones for cornmeal. Parent varieties include Virginia Gourdseed, Texas Red and White Gourdseed, Cherokee Gourdseed, and Tennessee Red Cob. Richard started with Virginia Gourdseed in 2011, crossed in the others over the next seven years, and has been stabilizing the mix since 2019. East Wind, located in the Missouri Ozarks, is a sister community to Twin Oaks. 91 seeds/oz.

Note: The shipping and handling cost for all orders is $6.00. The extra shipping expense we pay to send bulk sizes is included in the prices listed for this variety ($3 extra for 1#; $6 extra for 5#).
