Grown by Care of the Earth Community Farm – 85 days – Phaseolus vulgaris
A medium-sized beige to almost lime green bush bean with red-brown ring on hila produced on very healthy, upright, productive plants. Beans have excellent resistance to premature sprouting in pods during heavy rains and resist discoloration as well. Care of the Earth Community Farm has been growing Verdon for several seasons now as a much more humidity-resistant stand-in for canary or pinto beans. They look very much like canary beans. Although the beans look nothing like pinto beans when harvested, the beans turn gray-brown when cooked and are sweet, meaty, and earthy. They can be refried or used in other Southwestern, Tex-Mex, and traditional Mexican dishes. Originally from Quarto d’Altino, Italy, where it is used in winter soups. Original seedstock from Uprising Seeds, who received the variety from Hayshaker Farm. 84 seeds/oz.
