Grown by Care of the Earth Community Farm – 80 days – Cucumis melo
This melon seedstock is part of Care of the Earth Community Farm’s project to dehybridize Magnificenza F1, a well-known organic Italian orange muskmelon. Megan and Lalo began selecting for two different melons in 2022. Margie’s Melon is a smaller, well-netted, round to slightly oval melon with medium-high brix (10.5-11.5), very good flavor, and good storage. Its texture and flavor are reminiscent of a Charentais melon. It shows field resistance to Fusarium Wilt and intermediate resistance to both Bacterial Wilt and Downy Mildew and is productive. Melons average 2 pounds. Pick at full-slip, when external color begins to turn from green to yellow. These seeds were saved from a planting that produced 100% round to slightly oval, netted melons – but there may still be some slight variability. Named for Margie Peeler, a close friend and former farm employee. 50 seeds/gram. Seed quantity is limited this year.
These are Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) pledged seeds.
