Grown by Laughing Springs Farm – Phaseolus vulgaris – 70 days
Lualualei is the original of the Hawaiian pole green beans, later followed by Hawaiian Wonder, Manoa Wonder, and Poamoho Wonder which all included Lualualei in their pedigree. We were introduced to Lualualei by a fellow seed saver in Hawaii and fell in love with it. It is productive, has succulent flat beans that remain non-tough till an impressive size, and our young son loved (and loves) to eat them raw. It is productive, continues yielding for a good stretch, and is a vigorous but not overly aggressive climber. Although Lualualei reportedly fell out of favor in Hawaii in the late 1930s due to the arrival of a strain of rust which impacted it heavily, we have not noted any rust issues in Hawaii or in North Carolina. Will vary by location and conditions, but plan of 70-75 days to first harvest. 69 seeds/oz.
