Mountaineer Pride Tomato (West Virginia 17A) (Certified Organic)

Grown by Care of the Earth Community Farm – Solanum lycopersicum – 70 days

A red slicing tomato from West Virginia University’s tomato breeding program, developed by Mannon Gallegly and Mahfuz Rahman. Indeterminate, healthy plants produce defect-free tomatoes almost unabated for up to 12 weeks. Fruits tend to come in clusters, with two large red slicers and two medium red slicers. The flavor is outstanding. Mountaineer Pride comes from a cross between two Late Blight resistant varieties: WVU’s ”West Virginia 63” and “Iron Lady.” It is also resistant to Fusarium Wilt, Septoria Leaf Spot, and Verticillium Wilt. Care of the Earth Community Farm first grew these tomatoes in a 2022 trial designed to look at Late Blight resistance. There was no Late Blight present during the trial, but these tomatoes were so impressive that they have been growing them ever since. Strongly recommended to market growers who depend on consistent production. 312 seeds/gram.
